So, I know I'm six years too late, but I've been re-watching season 7 of Buffy and have been craving some fanfiction, especially Buffy/Spike. So I came here, and look what I've found! This is amazing. Truly amazing. It's so heartwrenching and detailed and beautiful. I love the imagery and your take on everything that happened during that scene. It's just... breathtaking.
Anyway, I hope I'm not too annoying, leaving a review so long after you've written, but I wanted to leave some of my thoughts and my gratitude to you for creating such a beautiful fic. So, thanks. ~Elsa

That's one of the most eloquent reads on the take of the last seen of Chosen that I've ever read. And I've analyzed and written that part myself, too. You captured it so beautifully! Really nice!

Jul 14, 2003 Like Deborah Cohen, I especially liked the way this story handled Buffy's rationale for NOT arguing when Spike insisted that she didn't love him. It gives me comfort to think that there IS a plausible reason, other than agreement, why she let this remark slide by.
I would love to see a companion piece on the same scene from Spike's perspective. Any chance you'll write one?

Besides being beautifully written the reason this story touched me so much is because it explores Buffy's immediate reaction to Spike's denial of her declaration of love and her reasons for NOT protesting or arguing with him. And I needed that because that moment in "Chosen", when she finally *tells him she does* and he tells her that *no she doesn't* was for me the most devastating.
In "Chosen" the silence with which Buffy greeted Spike's denial of her long awaited declaration of love appeared to me to imply her acceptance and tacit agreement with his conclusion. If Spike's well established talent for insight into the hearts and minds of those around him and Buffy in particular wasn't enough to convince me of the cruel truth of his words then Buffy's failure to protest his conclusion killed any hope that he might be mistaken. So I owe a big thanks to Merryweather for giving me a broader perspective with which to view Buffy's reaction. This stoty brought me some welcome comfort. I have recommended it on the Fanfiction Thread of the the posting board I frequent (Soulful Spike Society) and a number of people have posted back that that they read it and loved it as well.
Thank you Merryweather, for making me feel better about Buffy's and Spike's last moments together and for beginning to restore my faith in her love for him (albeit too little, too late).

Jun 5, 2003 These 'chosen' fics are going to be the death of me. Why are they SO good? Answer me this! These 'chosen' fics are the best fics written every time. Maybe because all of us Spuffy lovers feel so passionately about it. At any rate, when you put it the way you did, it's almost like Whistler was foreshadowing Spike's death all those seasons ago, and it had sod all to do with Angel. And as a final thought, I LOVE the way you brought to light why exactly Spike called his soul a "spark" when he was ill of mind. It was a spark indeed. Perhaps he knew before any of us. Excellent. Done now...:)

Jun 4, 2003 amazing little piece, really. you captured everything about that scene that needed to be captured. too many people seem to think of that scene as "spike dying without knowing he was loved", and you have beautifully shown that it was so much more than that. thankyou.
